Xzavier Todd Johnson, age 17, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2026.
He was born on June 4, 2008, in Iola, Kansas, to Alesha Stahl and Michael Johnson. From the very beginning, Xzavier carried a gentle spirit and a quiet strength that those around him quickly came to know.
Growing up, Xzavier naturally stepped into the role of a protective older brother in a gentle, steady way that never felt harsh or overbearing. He looked out for his siblings with quiet awareness, always paying attention to where they were and how they were doing, as if it came as second nature to him. If they needed help, he was already there without needing to be asked. His siblings adored him for it, and in their eyes he wasn't just a brother, but a safe place they could always return to.
During his preteen years, Xzavier had a natural ability to change the atmosphere in a room without ever trying too hard. He could walk into a quiet or tense moment and, with a simple comment or well-timed joke, bring out laughter that felt easy and genuine. Even at a young age, he seemed to understand when someone needed a break from silence or seriousness, and he had a way of helping them feel seen without making it a big deal.
He attended Iola High School, where he became known not just as a student, but as a friend to many. Xzavier had a way of making people feel seen and included. It came naturally to him to look beyond differences and focus instead on kindness, respect, and simply treating others well.
One of his greatest comforts in life was found near the water. Fishing became more than a hobby for him; it was a place of peace where he could slow down, think, and simply be. Music was another constant in his life, and he enjoyed all genres, always open to whatever song or sound spoke to the moment.
What truly defined Xzavier, though, was the way he cared for people. He believed in acceptance and happiness for everyone, and he lived that belief out in everyday ways. While at Iola High School, he made a lasting impact through his friendship with students in the Special Education program. His friends were like family to him, and he held those bonds close, standing firmly beside them with a quiet but unwavering loyalty, always ready to protect their hearts and be there for them without hesitation. He stood beside them with consistency and sincerity, offering respect, companionship, and support without hesitation. Many will remember him as someone who showed up when it mattered, often in quiet but meaningful ways.
Xzavier is survived by his parents, Alesha Stahl and Michael Johnson, as well as his step-father Howard Patterson; 7 Siblings, Cadience, Kobe, Jordan, Aaliyah, Michael Jr., Mashayla, Julian; along with many friends and family members who will carry his memory forward with deep love and sorrow.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow at La Harpe Cemetery in La Harpe, Kansas.
