Wallace Lee Hart

November 15, 1928 — January 30, 2026

Wallace Lee Hart was born on November 15, 1928, in Sand Point, Idaho, to George W. Hart and Stella (Smith) Hart. He lived a life defined by hard work and commitment to his family and and the town of Humboldt.

On June 2, 1946-just one day after graduating from high school-Wally married the love of his life, Mary Kathryn (Kate) Montgomery. Together they built a life rooted in partnership and perseverance and raised three sons: Wally Hart, Joe Hart, and John Hart.

In 1964, Wally and Kate moved their family to Humboldt, Kansas, where Wally opened Pence IGA, later known as Humboldt IGA. The grocery store became a cornerstone of the community, and Wally served generations of Humboldt residents with pride and consistency. He continued working at the store until his retirement in 2010, marking decades of service.
Wally was a devoted member of the Humboldt Rotary Club for more than 50 years, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to service above self and community involvement.

He love a steak dinner and a game of pitch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Stella Hart; his beloved wife, Mary Kathryn Hart; his brother, James Hart; and his sons, Wally Hart and Joe Hart.

Wally is survived by his son, John Hart; his grandchildren, Danielle (Daryl) Kelly, Richard Hart, David (Kaylee) Hart, Joshua (Sarah) Hart, Lindsay Hart, Kyle (Joni) Hart, and Jaden (Joshua) Shultz; and his great-grandchildren, Kathryn (James) Opacich, K'lynn Kelly, Kadence Kelly, Peyton Hart, Haven Hart, Caleb Hart, Addison Hart, Asher Hart, Carlin Hart, Kady Hart, Kinley Hart, and Greyson Shultz and Skylar Shultz. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family who carries his name forward.
