Vern Leon (Butch) Cuppet, Jr.

Vern Leon (Butch) Cuppet, Jr., age 74, of Savonburg, Kansas, passed away June 4, 2025, at St. Luke's East Hospital, Lee's Summit, Missouri. Butch was born August 17, 1950, in Iola, Kansas, to Vern L. Cuppet, Sr. and Maxine L. (Gooding) Cuppet.

Butch graduated in 1968 from Moran High School, Moran, Kansas. He worked 40+ years for the Allen County Road and Bridge Department and he raised cattle.

Butch received the second kidney transplant in KU Medical Center's history on August 19, 1969. He was the first kidney transplant patient to receive a kidney from a non-living and non-relative donor.

Butch liked to fish, hunt, and travel. He enjoyed spending time with his dog.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jim Shomaker.

Butch is survived by his sisters, Loretta Jameson, Jeanie (Matt) Mavec; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; close friend, Mike Wolfe; and his dog, Bridgett.

Cremation will take place. The family will have a celebration of life at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the Joint Rural Alumni, Stark, Kansas, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.
