TERRY J. ANDERSON
On January 29, 1936, Terry Joe Anderson was born at Ottawa, Kansas to Clarence Hobert Anderson and Erma Alberta (Timberlake) Anderson. Being born on "Kansas Day" Terry considered himself a "True Kansan". Terry passed from this world on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
Terry graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1954 and was President of his class. Terry then attended KU where he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The following summer Terry married Connie Lee Howerton. Terry worked in KC for 2 years while Connie finished her degree in Education at KU. Thereafter Terry entered Law School at Washburn University. After graduating from Washburn, Terry took a job with the United States Patent Office in Washington. DC.
Terry and Connie then moved to Rochester, NY for Terry's job at Xerox. Thereafter, a daughter, Traci Jo joined the family and in another 3 years a son Todd Justin joined the family. After 34 years of Marriage however, Cancer consumed Connie's life.
In due course, another wonderful lady by the name of Mary Ann Wold joined Terry's life followed by a marriage to Mary Ann adding her daughter, Margaret Louise to our blended family. Mary Ann & Terry enjoyed their life together in many ways and activities including skiing, golf, boating, and traveling.
In 2006, Terry retired from his final employment activity with Northrop, later to become known as Northrop-Grumman. After retirement, Terry & Mary Ann had a house on the water in Long Beach until they decided to move to the Coachella Valley, CA.
Terry developed a broad scope of experience and expertise in management, direction and delivery of legal services relative to Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, Trade Secrets, Unfair Competition, Antitrust, Licensing, Government & Commercial Contracts, Data Rights, Engineering, Computer, Communications and Technology Law and Key Contributor to Special Projects, Major Litigation, Teaming Agreements and Merger, Acquisition and Divestiture Activities.
Terry was employed by The Northrop Grumman Corporation, Los Angeles, CA from 1984 to his retirement as Senior Corporate Counsel and Chief Patent Counsel and senior legal advisor responsible for the management, direction and delivery of legal services involving intellectual property and technology matters for this Fortune 200, $30B Electronic/Aerospace Company and its subsidiaries and operating business units and elements. At the Xerox Corporation, Stamford, CT (1966-1981) Terry was a Senior Attorney reporting to the Assistant General Counsel responsible for acquisitions, new businesses, and regulatory matters. His accomplishments included support of legal and regulatory activities in the acquisition of an existing international record carrier business; support of FCC petitions toward establishment of a high speed data distribution alternative to the telephone system; and analysis of areas of corporate interest or concern in FCC and State regulatory agency actions; development of strategic positions, and organization and directing preparation, review and filing of responses in FCC matters. Before NGC, Terry was employed by the Trans Lux Corporation, Norwalk, CT from 1981 to1984 as Vice President, Legal Affairs--Reported to Chairman for this AMEX Communications and Entertainment Company. Responsible for establishing and managing corporate legal department. At the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Washington, DC from 1964 to 1966, Terry served as an Examiner where he examined registers and computing devices in the Physics Group, General Engineering and Industrial Arts Examining Operation.
Terry was also employed by the Kansas Department of Transportation in Topeka, KS from 1960 to 1964 as a Civil Engineer--Designed Interstate, Federal and State Highway Systems. Terry was also employed by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City, MO from 1959 to 1960 as a Mechanical Engineer preparing and reviewing equipment specifications for repair, purchase or modifications of plant, tooling, and equipment.
Terry's Education includes: an MBA from Pepperdine University (1976), a Certificate from the United States Patent Office Academy (1966), a JD from Washburn University Law School (1964) and a BSME from the University of Kansas (1959).
Terry's Military service was with the U. S. Army Reserve from 1954 to 1962.
Terry leaves behind his devoted wife, Mary Ann and her daughter, Margaret and her husband Judd Fuoto and their daughter, Daisy Fuoto. Terry's daughter, Traci and her husband Gary Michell and their children; Jason Lilly and his wife Kristen and their son (great-grandson) Jake, Trevor Lilly, and Mckenna Lilly, Terry's son, Todd Anderson and his wife Stephanie and their children: Shannon Anderson, Paige Anderson, and Sylvee Anderson. Other immediate family members include; Terry's brother, Gayle Anderson and his wife, Nancy from Topeka, KS and his other brother, Don Anderson from Berryton, KS.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Fuller-Thompson American Legion Post 48 and left in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.feuerbornfuneral.com
