Robert "Bob" Culver, age 87, of Centerville, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Guest Home Estates in Garnett, Kansas.
Robert Lee Culver was born on March 25, 1938, in Emporia, Kansas, the eldest of three children born to Horace and Anna Mary (Coffman) Culver. During his youth, Bob's family moved to Texas for his father's work in the oil industry. He attended school there and graduated from Lueders Rural High School with the Class of 1956. Following high school, Bob attended a junior college to play football until an injury unfortunately ended his playing career. He then returned to Lueders to work in the oil fields for a period of time.
In 1961, Bob was drafted into the military and served his country for two years. During that time, he and his wife, Johnna, were stationed in Boston for a brief time. When his military service concluded, Bob and Johnna moved to Kansas to be with his family, who had already relocated there from Texas. Once back in Kansas, Bob obtained his barber certification in Wichita and accepted his first job in Garnett working for Al Collins. Garnett eventually became the community where he and Johnna would make their home and raise their family.
Bob was united in marriage to Johnna Teague on June 3, 1960, in Balmorhea, Texas. Together, they shared 59 wonderful years until her passing in 2019. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Jeanette and Carolyn.
Bob truly embraced "the dad life." He was a constant source of support for his daughters, whether he was helping them with 4-H projects or cheering loudly from the sidelines of their sports and various activities. He was an active member of the community, serving as the treasurer for the Methodist Church daycare and as a member of the Centerville Community church.
In his free time, Bob enjoyed golfing and participating in the Jaycee's car races out at the lake. He was also a fixture on the local sports scene, playing slow-pitch softball for the Farris Feuerborn team. In their later years, Bob took great pride in his unofficial role as Johnna's personal chauffeur, ensuring she got wherever she needed to go.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Johnna Culver; and his sister, Rose Marie Bennett.
He is survived by his daughters, Jeanette Baker and her husband Bernie, and Carolyn Risley and her husband Kevin, all of Emporia, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jacob Baker, Connor Baker, Haley Risley, and Hana Risley; one brother, Bill Culver of Perry, Kansas; and numerous other family members and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Centerville Community Church. Bob's family will greet friends on Friday evening, January 23, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett.
