Rex "Buster" C. Hobbs, Jr.

August 1, 1955 — June 8, 2025

Rex, beloved son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on June 8th, 2025 at the age of 69. His health had declined significantly over the past several months and after receiving recent life changing news, he just didn't have the strength to carry on. He was a Dr. Tommy Osborn baby, born in Colony, Kansas on August 1, 1955. He acquired his nickname "Buster" when he was two and had received his first pair of Buster Brown shoes. Buster attended school in Iola, Kansas and graduated in 1973.

Buster was uniquely talented in many areas. Furniture maker, long-haul truck driver, master boat mechanic, and he acquired a reputation as "McGyver" because he had the ability to fix things using everyday items you might find laying around. He designed and created beautifully unique working tattoo guns. Several of them were featured in published art books. Mostly, he was a horseman, working with them from a very young age. For the last several years he continued his father's legacy of breeding and raising high quality performance quarter horses bred for power, agility and level headedness. This was Buster's calling. He loved researching bloodlines and genetics to determine which mares and stallions would produce the best of the best. He had a quiet way with them, using patience and understanding always, even though he had been seriously injured in his early years as a horseman.

Buster was preceded in death by his parents, Rex C. Hobbs Sr., and Barbara Whitaker-Falconbridge; grandparents, Kenneth and Iva Hobbs, and Gene and Cecil Whitaker; and most recently his son, Brandon Hobbs.

He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne; his daughters, Blaze, Lacey, and Brandee; his stepsons, Drew and Will; sisters, Kathy, Vicki and Heather; numerous nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Memorials should be sent to the Kansas Horse Council. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time. Family will announce the date once it has been determined.
