Phyllis O'Brien, age 66, of Lane, Kansas, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at her home, surrounded by family.
She was born on January 9, 1960, to Billy and Helen (Lile) Wilcox, at St. Luke's in Kansas City, Missouri.
Phyllis was a woman of deep character, remembered by those who knew her as a thoughtful, proud, and incredibly hardworking person. She held a profound love for her family, especially her parents, whom she cherished throughout her life. Phyllis shared a bond with her baby sister that was truly one of a kind; from their earliest years, the two were inseparable best friends and constant companions.
In 2002, Phyllis's life changed when she met David while they were both working at the CFS West Butter Factory. Their connection was immediate and strong, leading them to move in together shortly after meeting. They spent nearly a decade building their life and home together before being united in marriage on August 16, 2011.
A true lover of the outdoors, Phyllis found her greatest peace living in the country. She possessed a remarkable green thumb and took great pride in her plants. Her home was a sanctuary for the things she loved most, including her many cats and dogs. Phyllis was also naturally gifted with children and had a practical, sharp mind for finances, often described as someone who was always up for anything good.
Above all else, Phyllis was a devoted mother. She was immensely proud of her one and only son, and she delighted in talking about his career as a banker. His accomplishments were her greatest joy, and she never missed an opportunity to share her pride in the man he had become.
She is survived by her parents, Bill and Helen Wilcox of Shawnee, Kansas; her husband, David, of the home; her son Grant (Cassa) Douglas II of Kansas City, Kansas; her beloved baby sister, Louisa (Brad) Mullender of Louisburg, Kansas; brother Duane (Kim) Wilcox; nieces, Hailey and Emily Wilcox all of Spring Hill, Kansas, and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her fierce loyalty and kind spirit.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at Centerville Cemetery, Centerville, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to Always and Furever Miami County Sanctuary and left in the care of the funeral home. Condolences for the family can be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com
