Nellie Fern Kelley, age 102, passed away peacefully in Loveland, Colorado, on July 23, 2025, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and a legacy of love that will not soon be forgotten.

Nellie was born in Garnett, Kansas, to Walter and Lochia (Hart) Pugsley on November 7, 1922. She was the youngest of six children, all of whom preceded her in death. She grew up on a farm south of Garnett near Busch City, where she learned early the value of hard work, family, and not taking life too seriously. She graduated from High School in 1940, carrying with her not only an education but a steady, practical outlook that served her well.

On July 17, 1945, Nellie married Charles Kelley in Welda, Kansas. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Dennis, Richard, and Terrance. Together, Nellie and Charles built a life grounded in commitment and quiet strength. As a homemaker, Nellie created a home that was not only well-kept, but deeply welcoming. After Charles's passing, she continued forward with resilience, holding close the memories they shared.

Nellie had a gift that cannot be taught, she was genuinely funny. Not the loud, attention-seeking kind, but the kind that could catch you off guard and leave you smiling long after. She would rarely, if ever, admit her age, preferring instead to let people guess and then enjoy the moment that followed. She was known to poke fun at herself if it meant lifting someone else up, a trait that made people feel comfortable, valued, and seen. Her humor was matched by her kindness, and together they made her someone others naturally leaned on.

Nellie loved to dance, especially ballroom, where she moved with a natural grace that was hard to miss. The way she carried herself on the dance floor was a reflection of who she was steady, elegant, and quietly captivating.

In addition to her parents and siblings, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kelley and her granddaughter Charity Kelley.

She is survived by her three sons; five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, each of whom carry forward a piece of her spirit.

She will be remembered as an influential and loving presence in the lives of those who knew her. Whether through quiet support, well-timed humor, or simply being there when it mattered, Nellie made an impact that outlived any single moment. She will be missed by anyone who was blessed to know her.

A memorial service will be held on July 10, 2026, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Nellie lived a long life, but more importantly, she lived it well, with heart, humility, and just enough humor to make the hard days lighter.

Nellie's family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory consider leaving a nominal donation at the funeral home to a charity of their choice.
