Michael Culbertson, age 40, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at his home following health complications.
Born on October 18, 1985, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, he was the son of Noel and Eugenia (Culbertson) Royer. Michael was the proud "big" brother to his three younger sisters: Mariah, Maggie, and Martina. He graduated from Topeka High School in 2007 and spent 20 wonderful years participating in day programs at TARC Services, where he cultivated countless friendships.
Though Michael was large in physical stature, it was no match to the size of his heart, his capacity for love was truly unlimited. His joyful spirit and genuine affection left a lasting impact on everyone he met. A man of deep faith, Michael was a devoted member of Fairlawn Nazarene Church and loved Jesus dearly. He possessed a warm, unconditional love for others, often described as being as close to heaven as one can find on earth.
Michael found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He took his responsibility of caring for the family chickens seriously, carefully tracking the egg count to ensure he could enjoy his daily omelette. A true lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed assisting his father in the yard and was eagerly anticipating the harvest from this year's tomato garden. He loved cheese and added it to everything. He loved assisting mom in the kitchen, especially during his favorite holiday, Thanksgiving.
An active and social spirit, Michael thrived at dances, particularly the Tim Tebow "Night to Shine," and was an enthusiastic participant in the Special Olympics and playing softball with the WIBW all stars team.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Christina Culbertson and Susan Royer.
Michael is survived by his parents, Noel and Eugenia Royer; sisters, Mariah Royer and Steven Sabota, Magdalene Royer and Luke DeMint, and Martina Royer; his nephew, Asher Sabota; his grandfathers, Bill Culbertson and Jerry Royer; and his aunts and uncles, Eric, Aaron, and Andrew Culbertson, along with Sharon Smith, and Susanna and Deborah Culbertson.
In honor of Michael's love for dressing up and wearing a suit and tie, the family encourages all attendees to wear their favorite tie to the service.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 22, 2026, at Fairlawn Nazarene Church, 730 SW Fairlawn Rd, Topeka, Kansas. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM at the Richmond Cemetery in Richmond, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray expenses and left in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
