Maude Ilene Burns

Maude Ilene Burns, age 90, of Iola, Kansas, passed away September 8, 2022, at Heartland Meadows, Iola, Kansas. Maude was born September 10, 1931, in Hepler, Kansas, to William D. (Dale) Stringer and Angie J. (Jewell) (Bruce) Stringer.

Maude graduated in 1949 from Hepler High School, Hepler, Kansas. Maude married Vere R. (Bob) Burns on May 28, 1949, in Hepler, Kansas.

Maude was raised on a farm near Hepler. After she and Bob married, they lived in numerous places due to Bob's work, later locating in Parsons, Kansas, and moving to Iola in 1969. Maude worked as a switchboard operator for several years in Parsons and later she worked as a sales clerk at Heard and Smith Western Auto in Iola.

Maude enjoyed following local, state, and national politics and often writing letters to the forum. She liked to travel the United States with Bob, camping at Farlington Lake and eating at the marina there, and playing cards at the senior center.

Maude was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; son, Terry Wayne Burns; brothers, Wayne Stringer, Eugene Bauder; sister, Evelyn Stringer, and great-grandson, Cecil Dobbs.

Maude is survived by daughter, Cinda (Mike) Jones, Moran, Kansas; sons, Don (Jane) Burns, Iola, Kansas, Ron Burns, Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandson; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A visitation for Maude will be on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. A graveside memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022, in the Hepler Cemetery, Hepler, Kansas.
