Mary Rickabaugh, age 88, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Parkview Heights in Garnett.
Mary Bernadina Landwehr was born December 14, 1937, at the Gerth Cabin near Greeley, Kansas, she was the sixth of eleven children born to Aloysius "Ollie" and Lenora (Kratzberg) Landwehr. A dedicated student, she graduated as the valedictorian of her class in 1955. Following high school, she spent two years working in Kansas City before returning to serve as a medical assistant for Dr. Harris at the Garnett Medical Center until starting her family.
Mary married Darrell Rickabaugh on July 16, 1957, at St. John's Church in Greeley, Kansas. Together, they raised four children. As her children grew, Mary balanced her role as a mother with a dedicated professional life, serving as a secretary at Greeley High School and Garnett High School. After retirement, she remained active by providing daycare for Morgan and Mattheu Egidy and later returned to the school system as a lunch attendant at the Greeley Grade School.
A woman of deep faith and generosity, Mary was a faithful member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She found great joy in gardening and cultivating flowers, and she was an active supporter of her children's pursuits in 4-H, FFA, and FHA. Her kitchen was often the heart of her home, filled with the aroma of her famous Christmas cookies and peanut clusters. Known for her kindness, she frequently prepared care packages for others. Mary also cherished social connections, enjoying trips, cruises, and local outings like Taco Tuesdays. She loved playing cards with family and friends, though those who knew her well noted she was a fierce competitor who played to win.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Lenora Landwehr; her husband, Darrell Rickabaugh; her sisters, Trudy Rockers and Katherine Hermreck; and her brothers, Dennis and Ed Landwehr.
Mary is survived by her children: Joe Rickabaugh and wife Tracey of Topeka, Kansas; Paul Rickabaugh and wife Andra of Wilmore, Kansas; Mark Rickabaugh and wife Karen Roper of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Mary Beth Rockers and husband Russell of Garnett, Kansas. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Drew, Chelsey, Cole, Jack, Jordan, Madison, and Oren Rickabaugh; eight great-grandchildren, Jantzen, Jameson, Savannah, and Sienna Rickabaugh; Cameron and Beau Rickabaugh; Lucy and Clyde Feuerborn; her brother, J. Frank Landwehr; and her five sisters, Louann Hermreck, Jeannette Gilner and husband Bob, Mona Farrell, Joyce Landwehr, and Judy Schaefer; sister in law, Jan Landwehr; and many nieces and nephews.
