Mary Feuerborn, age 87, of Richmond, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Olathe Hospice House.

Mary Rose Hammes was born on August 10, 1939, in Baileyville, Kansas. She was the eighth of twelve children born to Lawrence and Cornelia (Stallbaumer) Hammes. Mary grew up on a farm near Baileyville and graduated from Baileyville High School in 1957. Following high school, Mary worked in Kansas City for a few years before meeting her future husband, Mark Feuerborn. On September 21, 1968, they were united in marriage in Baileyville. They first made their home in Kansas City until moving to their current home near Scipio in 1973. Mary worked as a bookkeeper at the Richmond Co-Op before staying home to raise their children, Suzy and Kevin.

For over 35 years Mary was the bookkeeper for St. Boniface Church and Cemetery. She taught herself to digitize the cemetery records and implemented the system for tracking and recording the burials and lot ownership. Her skills and support were helpful in the early days of her daughter and son in law's business, Purple Wave Auction. She spent countless hours working on and refining their accounting systems.

Mary cherished spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid fan of the Royals, Chiefs, and KU basketball. She loved traveling with her family to many locations over the years. Mary and Mark were able to visit Las Vegas on their honeymoon and again for their 50th anniversary, using the exact same suitcase for both trips. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her eight grandchildren and great grandson. She was quite possibly never late to anything in her 87 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Hammes on November 30, 1993, and Cora Hammes on July 15, 1975; five brothers, Donald Hammes on November 21, 1967, Gerald Hammes on May 16, 2021, Kenneth Hammes on November 15, 2022, Leo Hammes on February 11, 2024, and Alvin Hammes on January 20, 2026; and three sisters, Dorothy Bergman Schraad on January 19, 2017, Cleta Mae Haverkamp on December 8, 2020, and Bernice M. Hammes Heiman on February 23, 2025.

Mary is survived by her husband, Mark Feuerborn, of the home; daughter, Suzy McKee and husband Aaron of Wamego, Kansas, and their children, Emma, Madee and husband Kendle Holveck and son, Finn (great-grandson), Kirby, Mark, and Garrett; son, Kevin Feuerborn and wife Ashley of Gardner, Kansas, and their children, Mason, Landon, and Kadin; two brothers, Galen Hammes and wife Dorothy, and Larry Hammes; one sister, Jeannette Becker and husband Dave; two sisters-in-law, Alice Hammes and Mary Jane Hammes; and many nieces and nephews.
