Martha Fitzmaurice, age 88, of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, at Oswego Health and Rehab, Oswego, Kansas.
Martha Wilson was born on March 28, 1937, to Harvey and Elsie (Bing) Wilson in Douglas, Kansas. She attended grade school in Bell Plain and went on to graduate from Coyville High School. After school, she was united in marriage to Rex Thomas for 38 years; this union was blessed with two sons. In her life she was a farm wife, and secretary at Glading Dell Ray Campers.
Martha had a deep love for animals and found joy in caring for goats, sheep, and chickens. Gardening was another of her passions, and she found peace in working with the earth. In her later years, she devoted herself to the art of crafting-especially working with natural dyes, spinning wool, and weaving, pursuits that brought her great enjoyment.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Stanely Wilson; husband, Don Fitzmaurice.
She is survived by her sons, Richard and wife Annette of Fredonia, Kansas and Arnold Thomas of Yates Center, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Mont Ida Church, Welda, Kansas. Martha's family will greet friends one hour prior to service, at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Mont Ida Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Mont Ida Church and can be left in the care of the funeral home.
