Lori Ann Ensminger passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at KU Medical Center, surrounded by the love of her family.
Lori Mitchell was born on May 22, 1964, in Sacramento, California, to Loren and Marvilla "Bobbie" (Zeigler) Mitchell. She later made her home in Iola, Kansas, where she grew up and formed many lifelong friendships. Lori graduated from Iola High School in 1982 and continued her education at Emporia State University, earning her bachelor degree in Elementary Education with emphasis in Special Education in 1988 and master's degree in Special Education in 1992.
On July 19, 1986, Lori married the love of her life, Charles Alan Ensminger, in Iola, Kansas. Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with three children: Jennifer, Kaitlin, and Cameron, who were the center of Lori's world.
Lori was a member of the Kappa Alpha Sorority. Lori loved to travel, journaling, and spending time with family. Most importantly she had a love and a heart for Jesus. Her faith was the most important to her.
Lori dedicated her life to helping others and will be remembered by many as one of the most compassionate, patient, and kindhearted. Lori had taught Special Education for 13 years at Humboldt Elementary School. Then later decided to fulfill her purpose by staying at home to raise her children. She had a gentle spirit and a servant's heart, always willing to offer encouragement, support, and love to those around her. Her warmth and kindness touched countless students, coworkers, friends, and family members throughout her life.
Above all else, Lori cherished her family. She found joy in the simple moments spent together and leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, strength, and grace that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Loren Mitchell.
She is survived by her husband, Alan; mother, Marvilla "Bobbie" Mitchell; and her children, Jennifer Rhodes and husband Dustin, Cameron Ensminger and wife Cheyenne, Kaitlin Lissolo and husband Colten, and her bonus daughter Genna Mitchell; 11 grandchildren Layla, Kyler, Kayler, Charlie, Tucker, Corbin, Phillip, Addison, Olivia, Lillian, and Tatum; 3 Siblings David, Harold, and Barbara Mitchell; as well as many extended relatives and friends.
