Alene Madl, age 74, of Savonburg, Kansas passed away on March 6, 2024 at the Allen County Regional Medical Center, Iola, Kansas.

Lois Alene Harriger was born June 13, 1949 in Rich Hill, Missouri. She was the second of three children born to Wayne and Lois (Wadsworth) Harriger. She attended high school at Rich Hill. While living in Oklahoma, Alene met her future husband and best friend in 1977. On October 11, 1980, Alene and Roger Madl were married in the St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Erie, Kansas. They first made their home in Erie before moving to Savonburg in 1985, where they enjoyed living and working on their concrete statuary business.

Alene grew up hunting and fishing with her dad. Her love of the outdoors played a significant role in her life, she shared countless hours hunting and fishing with Roger, her children, and her grandchildren. She loved bow hunting deer and out fishing Roger at their favorite bass pond. Alene's favorite flowers were all of them, she could be counted on to always have flowers growing around the house. She also loved her cats and her affection for them rubbed off on Roger and he will now have to take over as the crazy cat lady of Savonburg. Alene had many artistic talents, some of her most famous were expressed in her jewelry that she made and in her painting. Alene and Roger owned and operated Madl Concrete from 1983-1998. She loved painting their concrete statuary and she was proud to say that they had pieces in every state and several around the world.

Alene was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Reola Ripple; and one brother, Wade Harriger.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Roger, of the home; five children, Bob Klubek and wife, Debbie, of Iola, Rev. Kelly Klubek and wife, Natalie, of Savonburg, Tammy Barkdoll and husband, Rick, of Chanute, Kansas, Joe Madl and wife, Nancy, of Chanute, Kansas, and Wayne Madl of Iola, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church, St. Paul, Kansas. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery. Alene's family will greet friends 6:30 - 8:00 PM, following a 6:00 PM Rosary at the church on Tuesday evening, March 12. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alene Madl memorial fund or to the American Heart Association. Condolences to the family may be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
