Lois Hetrick, age 95, of Westphalia, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Parkview Heights in Garnett.
Lois Maxine (Cade) Hetrick was born on February 4, 1930, in Ottawa, Kansas, to Leonard and Mary (Rodgers) Cade.
She was united in marriage to Clarence Hetrick on April 26, 1946, in Emporia, Kansas, by the Justice of the Peace. In 1951, the couple moved to the farm north of Westphalia, where Lois found her greatest joy, tending to her home, caring for her family, and welcoming friends with open arms. Lois and Clarence were blessed with four children: Leonard Earl, Roger, Steve, and Mary. She later earned her GED in 1971, a proud accomplishment that reflected her lifelong dedication and determination.
Lois loved to cook and host family gatherings, especially when Clarence's friends and family came to hunt. Her fried chicken dinners with mashed potatoes, gravy, and a garden vegetable became a beloved tradition, as did her hearty breakfasts, pancakes being a family favorite. She loved music of all kinds.
A talented bowler, Lois spent many Thursdays traveling to Burlington with her Westphalia State Bank bowling team where she competed at both the state and national levels. She was also gifted with a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, quilting, and crocheting.
Lois was deeply involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives, attending countless sporting events and celebrations over the years. She often visited her eldest son, Roger, in Texas and treasured every moment spent with her growing family.
Lois managed the Westphalia Food Store from 1971 to 1979, later owning and operating it until 1992. She then went to work at Golden Heights (now Parkview Heights) in Garnett for 19 years and retired in 2012. She was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene in Garnett, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Cade and Mary Rodgers Metheney (Cade); her husband, Clarence Hetrick; and her son, Leonard Earl Hetrick. Her maternal grandparents Zora and Louisa Rodgers; and her paternal grandparents.
She is survived by her children Roger and wife Dian Hetrick, Steve Hetrick, and Mary and husband Mark Warren; four grandchildren: Cody and wife Ashley Hetrick, Sarah and husband Cedric Walls, Alison and husband Chris Weston, Kyle and wife Kaitlyn Warren; six great-grandchildren: Everley Hetrick, Reece Hetrick, Holden Hetrick, Stella Walls, Ezra Walls, Samuel Weston. Lois was also loved by many nieces and nephews.
Lois's life is a reflection of love, family, faith, and simple joys, values she carried through every chapter of her remarkable life. Her legacy continues to shine through her family and the many lives she has touched.
