Loeda Catherine Lickteig, age 90, former longtime resident of Garnett, passed away Saturday, May 16 in Naperville, Illinois.

Born November 13, 1935 to Greg and Veronica (Bowman) Lickteig, she lived 82 years in Garnett, surrounded by family and friends. She attended all the schools in Garnett: Longfellow for Kindergarten; Irving and Holy Angels for elementary; and graduated from Garnett High School. After graduation, she became a Certified Nurse Assistant at the Anderson County Hospital-a career spanning 40 years of service before she retired in 1997. She served in all areas of the hospital, rocking newborns in the nursery, helping new mothers, assisting surgery patients, and caring for older members of the community in the hospital's Residential Living Center. While still working and even after retirement, she would often be greeted and stopped on the Square for a chat with former patients who remembered her kindness to them.

She was talented in embroidery and cross-stitch, creating many beautiful quilts for family members and friends. Her home was featured on the Garnett Library Tour of Homes in 1998, and some of her quilts were displayed. She loved playing the piano, taking lessons as an adult.

Loeda enjoyed visiting her niece and nephews, who lived out-of-state and entertaining them in the summer. Blessed with numerous cousins, she knew her family history. She was quick to spot a connection and then surprise unsuspecting distant cousins, informing them of their relation to one another. Loeda enjoyed being a "coffee regular" at Prairie Belle restaurant. She moved to Naperville, Illinois in 2018 to be closer to her sister, Linda.

Loeda was preceded in death by her parents, her nephew, Ted Teichgraeber, and her brother, Father Norbert Lickteig. She is survived by her sister, Linda Teichgraeber, brother-in-law Tom, Lisle, Illinois, nieces Tara (Teddy) LaBouff, Roswell, Georgia; Jennifer Teichgraeber, Freeland, Washington; nephew Stephen Teichgraeber, Lisle, Illinois; and great nephew, Nick Teichgraeber, Freeland, Washington. She also leaves behind many cousins and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett, with burial in Holy Angels Cemetery.
