Linda Platt, age 78, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Advent Health Shawnee Mission in Merriam, Kansas.
Linda was born on July 13, 1947, to Donald and Rua Couture in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found her greatest joy in creating a loving home for her family. On September 8, 1965, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Platt in Miami, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with two children, Shelly and Scott.
Holidays were truly the highlight of Linda's year, and she treated each one as the biggest event in their home. Her children remember her going "over the top" to ensure every celebration was filled with wonder, warmth, and lifelong memories. This dedication extended to the everyday, where she took great pride in preparing three-course meals for her family, believing that gathering together was the most important part of the day.
Linda's commitment to her family life was constant; she was the quintessential "room mom" who was always involved in her children's school activities and extracurriculars. Her professional life also reflected her nurturing spirit. After helping manage a daycare, she went on to operate her own, providing a caring environment for many local children. In her later years, she enjoyed working at the family's local liquor store in Ottawa.
Beyond her family and work, Linda was a loyal K-State fan. She and her husband, Kenny, were longtime season ticket holders and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Wildcats. After retirement, Kenny and Linda enjoyed traveling and stopping by occasional casinos. Linda loved being outdoors and tending to her flowers, and was always there to discuss life's adventures.
She was preceded in death by her father, and her beloved husband, Kenny Platt, who passed away on November 26, 2021.
Linda is survived by her mother, Rua Couture; daughter, Shelly Barnes of Ottawa, Kansas; her son, Scott Platt and wife Brenda of Colby, Kansas; and her three grandchildren, Cameron Barnes, Aaron, and Jessica Platt.
A visitation for Linda's family to greet friends will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Prairie Paws or St. Jude's Children Research and be left in the care of the funeral home.
