It is with great sadness that the family of Leona Marie Huettenmueller, 86, announce her passing on April 23, 2025. She was born to the late Hubert and Agnes Lickteig, in Greeley, Kansas on August 26, 1938. She grew up on their farm in Greeley the fourth of six children: two brothers, Norman and Roy; and three sisters, Lorene (Giles), Bernetta (Bach) and Bernadine "Birdie" (Murray).
After marrying Leo Huettenmueller, June 4, 1956 in Greeley, the young couple moved to El Paso, Texas where they started their family: Donna (Harris), Don (married to Juanita), Ed (married to Rhonda), and Gina (Mozelle). The family later moved to Carrollton, Texas where she lived until her passing. Leona was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Among her many activities in the church were the Woman's Club, the Shawl Ministry and Eucharistic Ministry. She also sewed baby blankets for premature babies at the hospital and grew aloe vera plants for the church's Autumn Fest.
For nearly 50 years and across four generations, Leona and Leo traveled to their property in eastern Colorado for the summer harvest. Although she worked hard on these trips, she managed to find time to relax (with a Fuzzy Navel, and another cocktail whose name is inappropriate for this occasion) and have fun with family members who came to help.
Once her children had grown and started families of their own, Leona became very involved with their children. She helped out by picking up grandchildren (and later great-grandchildren) from school and watching them until their parents got home from work, taking them swimming, teaching them crafts and hosting sleepovers and backyard picnics. She even occasionally enjoyed seeing Rachel's "feather/fur babies."
After managing a school cafeteria for many years, Leona retired and was able to spend even more time indulging her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They remember playing card/board games (but they had to be quiet, so as not to wake G-Pa"), eating ice cream, getting extra sugar on their cereal, and staying up late on New Year's Eve to watch the ball drop.
In addition to her husband and children, Leona is survived by grandchildren Jesse Mora, Sarah Burns, Chris Huettenmueller, Jeremy Harris, Kevin Huettenmueller, Nichelle Mozelle, Michael Mozelle, Jared Harris, Rachel Harris and Aleis Herrera; and great-grandchildren Alexiss, Adrienne, Aiden, Ava, Abby, Leo, Anthony, Shawn, Zac, Zayden, Zander, Zayne, Bella, Mikaylyn, Joshua, and Hope.
She was predeceased by brother Norman and sisters Lorene and Bernetta.
