Laura Frances Gallagher

Laura Gallagher, age 62, of Mound City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Olathe Hospice House, with her beloved husband of 37 years, Michael, holding her hand as she took her final breath.

Born on March 10, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, to Robert and Anita (Carruth) Barnhill, Laura later made Kansas her home and graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School.

Petite in stature, just five feet tall and rarely more than 100 pounds, Laura carried a spirit of extraordinary strength, meeting life's many trials with grace, resilience, and an unwavering capacity for love. Despite enduring serious health challenges and the heartbreak of miscarriages, she remained a gentle, kind soul whose quiet courage left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Laura found deep joy in life's simplest gifts, especially her lifelong love for animals, which she turned into a fulfilling career as a talented groomer known for her patience and compassionate touch. One of her happiest memories came during her and Michael's 10th anniversary trip to Arkansas, where an autumn visit to an animal sanctuary became a private, all-day experience; Michael would later recall how Laura "lit up" as she spent hours among the animals, a moment of pure happiness that stayed with them forever.

Above all, Laura's life was defined by her enduring love for Michael, her everything, and through every season of life, joy, illness, and hardship, they stood side by side, content in the quiet,meaningful life they built together.

Laura was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents, Robert and Anita Barnhill; and her sister, Robin.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Gallagher of Mound City, Kansas; her brother, Robert Barnhill; her sister, Patty Ottobre; her mother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; many cherished friends; and the countless animals whose lives were touched by her gentle heart.
