Larry Carl Jennings, age 72, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at his home, under hospice care.
Born on May 31, 1951, in Charleston, West Virginia, Larry was the third of three children born to Dimp Carl Jennings and Ernestine (Robinson) Jennings. Larry grew up in Elkview, West Virginia attending school there. Following school he relocated to Naples, Florida, where he worked in various construction related jobs. In 1992, Larry moved to Garnett, Kansas, where he raised his family with Tanya Johnston. Larry was an amazing carpenter, working for local companies in the Garnett area. Larry was an asset to the community, coaching youth sports while his children were growing up. He was a loving and caring father and brother. He loved fishing and white water rafting and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching football and basketball games, he especially loved West Virginia and was proud to share that he was born and raised there, and he was adamant that he return to West Virginia to be laid to rest there. Larry's family would like to recognize the loving care that he received from his nephews, Tony Wolfe and Ricky Godwin during the final stages of his illness .
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Bryant Jennings; one nephew, Todd Jennings; and one niece, Faithe Godwin Thomas.
Larry is survived by his four children and their families, Scott Meadows and wife, Violet, Matt Johnston, Larry Bryant Jennings, and Heather Gordon and husband, Luke; three grandchildren, Scott Meadows and wife, Elizabeth, Serena Meadows and significant other, Elliott Harris, and Ashley Whitt; four great grandchildren, Landon, Regan, Patton Mo, and Lilly; sister, Jeanie Jennings-Godwin; nephews, Tony, Tracy, Richard, Sam, Dalton, Jacob, and Alex; nieces, Amanda, Jessica, Cori, Jami, Tessa, and Rachel; and many other family and friends.
Larry is returning to Elkview, West Virginia where he will be laid to rest in the Jennings Family Cemetery. West Virginia services will be under the direction of Hafer Funeral Home, Elkview, West Virginia.
A funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Hafer Funeral Home in Elkview, WV. Visitation will be from 12:00pm-1:00pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Hafer Funeral Home.
Arrangements are in the care of Hafer Funeral Home, 50 North Pinch Road, Elkview, WV 25071.
