Kenneth Jackson Groves, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2026 under the hospice care of Harry Hynes at Credo Senior Living Facility of Chanute, Kansas.
He was born on January 3, 1945, in Eldorado, Kansas, to Gerald Wayne Groves and Mary Ann (Martin) Groves, who preceded him in death, along with his beloved wife, Gladys Jane Groves.
He is survived by his children, Jacque Groves Wichman and husband, Dr. David Wichman of Manhattan, Kansas and Joshua J. Groves of Wichita, Kansas; his grandchildren, Jackson and Kingston London and Lauren and Ryan Wichman; his sister, Cindy Baker and husband, Jim of Claremore, Oklahoma; brother, Dennis Groves and wife Jayne Link of Manhattan, Kansas; brother-in-law, David Strohm of Colorado Springs, Colorado; foster mother-in-law, Arlene Hulsey and husband, Clint of Tulsa, Oklahoma; foster sister-in-law, Connie Johnson and husband, Jeff of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and foster brother- in-law, Wayne Stanley and wife, Kelly of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ken graduated from Campus High School in 1963, and continued his education at Butler County Jr. College in Eldorado, Kansas. He received his teaching degree and his master's degree in administration at Wichita State University. He taught history, Drivers Ed and coached at West Elk, in Howard, Kansas. They later moved to Iola, where he finished his teaching career as Assistant High School Principal, and the Athletic Director. Ken was a member of the Kansas Teachers Association, the Calvary United Methodist Church of Iola, Kansas, and the Church Men's Group.
A celebration of life will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola, Kansas, on Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will take place at a later date in El Dorado, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family encourages memorial donations in Ken's name be made to the Bowlus Fine Art Center and left in the care of Feuerbon Family Funeral Service.
