Keith Pennebaker

July 6, 1947 — February 18, 2024

Keith Pennebaker, age 76, of Westphalia, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

Keith Wayne Pennebaker was born on July 6, 1947, in Emporia, Kansas. He was the third of four children born to Frank and Virginia (Strahm) Pennebaker. He was raised in Virgil, Kansas until 8th grade, then moved to Eureka after his dad sold his grocery store in Virgil. Keith graduated from Eureka High School, and then from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas.

Following college Keith lived and worked in Denver, where he married Sharon Tweedy and welcomed a step-son, Ian, into the family. They returned to Kansas where they welcomed their daughter, Audra in 1973. While living in Emporia, he worked for Iowa Beef for ten years. Following divorce, Keith and his children moved to Kansas City where he continued his education earning his certification in computer science. Keith and his children later moved to Wichita, where he began working for KG&E. In 1987, they moved to their home West of Burlington and Keith began working at the Wolf Creek power plant. While working there, Keith and Audra moved to Westphalia in 2005, and he continued working at Wolf Creek until retirement in 2007.

Keith and his daughter, Audra, shared countless hours working on the farm together and raising their beloved Champagne color Quarter Horses. Their horses garnered a widespread reputation earning mentions in magazines and genetic publications for their color. Over the years their horses ended up in locations throughout the United States, Canada and several European countries. In their free time they enjoyed trail rides and camping with area saddle clubs, especially the Garnett Saddle Club. Keith was the technical support department for many of his friends and family whenever they had a computer related question. He also was the unofficial family video editor making videos from photos they gave to him. Keith enjoyed traveling, some of his favorite trips included visiting the National Parks in the southwest and Yellowstone. Another of Keith's favorite trips included side by side adventures in Arkansas with his brother and nephew. The annual family trout fishing trips to Roaring River in October were a highlight of Keith's year. Some of Keith's most cherished times were hosting the yearly 4th of July barbeques for the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and previous wife, Sharon.
