Jon D. Spangler

Jon David Spangler, age 60, of Moran, Kansas, passed away March 16, 2023, at Moran Manor, Moran, Kansas. Jon was born September 29, 1962, in Iola, Kansas, to David Spangler and Ruth (Houk) Spangler.

Jon attended school in the Shawnee Mission school district and later at ANW Special Education Cooperative, Humboldt, Kansas. Jon attended Tri-Valley Developmental Services and he worked day services in manufacturing, making parts for Gates Rubber Company.

Jon was a member of the Moran Christian Church, where he served as the church's candle lighter.

Jon enjoyed KC Chiefs football and KU basketball. He liked to bowl and he participated in Special Olympics, where he played on the basketball team that won the state championship.

Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents; Earl F. and Opal G. (Sullivan) Houk and Don and Elma (Pinneo) Spangler.

Jon is survived by his parents of the home; one sister, Julie Cole, Iola, Kansas; one niece, Mindy (Michael) Covey, Humboldt, Kansas; two nephews, Adam (Kaely) Cole, Humboldt, Kansas, Gavin (Cassie) Cole, Moran, Kansas; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jaylynn Covey, Natalie Covey, Emmett Cole, Elliana Cole, Ebben Cole, Reese Cole, Everett Covey, Myles Covey, Eleanor Cole; aunts, Nancy (Wayne) Chandler, Moran, Kansas, aunt, Donna Fewins, Topeka, Kansas; uncle, Paul (Mary) Spangler, Chesterfield, Missouri; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at the Moran Christian Church, Moran, Kansas, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Moran Cemetery.
