John Vernon Vogel, age 67, of Moran, Kansas, passed away on March 29, 2026, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, following a brief battle with cancer.

John was born on June 7, 1958, in Seattle, Washington, to Richard and Carol "Jeannine" (Colwell) Vogel. His father served as a preacher, and enjoyed singing bass in southern gospel quartets, things that would later shape John's own life. He graduated with the Class of 1976 from Bemidji High School in Minnesota. On June 9, 1979, John was united in marriage to Deanna Lind in Brainerd, Minnesota. Deanna, known to many as Annie, stood beside him as they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work.

Together, John and Annie moved to Kansas in 1981 to start their family on his grandparent's homestead. They homeschooled their children, instilling in them a strong sense of independence and encouraging each of them to grow into their own person.

Outside of his professional life, John enjoyed raising cattle and improving the land, and was passionate about leaving all things better than when he found them.

John possessed an entrepreneurial spirit starting several businesses throughout his life. His most notable was as co-founder and president of KwiKom Communications, where he applied his self-taught knowledge to help build and grow the company.

After his time at KwiKom, his drive did not slow. He went on to start three more businesses, creating a legacy for his children and grandchildren. Self-employment suited him well. As his wife often said, he liked being the boss. Even as technology evolved, John remained committed to staying current and keeping himself up to date with cutting-edge advancements.

John also served as a pastor at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Savonburg, Kansas. Preaching kept him growing in his faith and gave him a meaningful way to share it with others. John's main desire was for all people to know the Lord and believe in His Word.

In his quieter moments, John found enjoyment in simple routines. One of his latest hobbies was following Not the Bee and the Babylon Bee and being the first to comment early in the morning.

John's perspective on life was clear and steady. If given two sheets of paper, one for blessings and one for troubles, his list of blessings would begin with his grandchildren and quickly fill page after page. His list of troubles would be short.

He is survived by his mother, Carol "Jeannine" Vogel; his wife, Deanna "Annie" Vogel; three sons, Eric Vogel and wife Courtney, Scott Vogel and wife Elizabeth, and Brian Vogel and wife Elizabeth; and his daughter-in-love, Laura Wray. He is also survived by his siblings, Kathy Duerst, Steve Vogel and wife Mary, Carol Bochler and husband Bryan, and Kristi Stibral and husband Chuck; as well as 16 grandchildren.

He is reunited with his father and two preborn grandchildren in Heaven.

John will be remembered as a strong and steady man, independent, faithful, and deeply devoted to God and his family.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Savonburg, Kansas. Burial will follow at Savonburg Swedish Cemetery. After burial the family invites friends and family to a Luncheon at Rocky Branch Ranch, 20 3200st, Savonburg, Kansas.
