John A. Reed, Sr.

John A. Reed Sr., age 82, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021, in Humboldt, Kansas.

John was born October 15, 1938, to Jack and Dorothy (Ralston) Reed in Yates Center, Kansas. He married Petsy (Yocham) Reed on September 12, 1959 in Iola, Kansas. Their union was blessed with two children, Tracy and John Reed Jr. John served four years in the United States Navy. He surrendered to the ministry in 1969 and did auto mechanic and body work the majority of his career.

At the age of 62, John learned to play the guitar. He loved to sing as well. After moving into Arrowood, John loved participating in the group activities. You could find him playing bingo or tearing up the dance floor with his dear friend, Delores Mosely, as music was played for everyone.

John is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Petsy (Yocham) Reed; and sister, Virginia Bland.

John is survived by his daughter, Tracy Splechter and husband, Ed; son, John Reed Jr. and wife, Tammy; siblings, Phyllis Hobbs and husband, Art, Margaret Anderson and husband, Larry, Millie Scantlin, Bill Reed, Jackie Yocham and husband, Billy, Marilyn Ulrey, Rick Reed, Sara Wolmelsdorf and husband, Roger; grandchildren, Ed Splechter and wife, Mary, Jeff Splechter and wife, Mary, Michael Splechter and wife, Erin, MaryAnn Howell and husband, Tony, Amber Bonczkowski and husband, Joey, and James Reed and wife, Tiffany; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.

A graveside service to honor the life of John will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 19, 2021, at the Yates Center Cemetery in Yates Center, Kansas.
