John Pollet, age 67, passed away August 24, 2023, at home surrounded by his family in Iola, Kansas.
John was born July 24, 1956, in Iola, Kansas, the youngest of five, to Claude and Dorothy Heimberg Pollet.
John attended LaHarpe schools during his youth, before transferring to Iola and graduating from Iola High School with the class of 1975. He spent many of his younger days helping on the family farm south of LaHarpe.
John enjoyed keeping busy with his hands and was known as a Jack of all trades. He liked working on tractors, vehicles, lawn mowers and anything else he could tinker with. He loved being outdoors and being around his family.
John's first job, other than the family farm, was at the local chicken plant. In 1976, he began working at Gates and spent over 25 years there before going to work for Russell Stover Candies as a machine operator. He retired in October 2022. John wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty or work hard.
John is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Dorothy Pollet; his sister Shirley Allen; and brother-in-law Bill Beasley.
John is survived by his sisters Nancy (Larry) Pollett of Independence, Kansas, and Barbara Beasley of LaHarpe, Kansas; brother Clarence (Patsy) Pollet of LaHarpe, Kansas; children Dennis (Jamie) Walden of Humboldt, Kansas, John (Sarah)Pollet of Girard, Kansas, Terri Yokum of Iola, Kansas, Regina Cuppy of Iola, Kansas, Heather (Jacob) Trester of LaHarpe, Kansas; grandchildren Travis Walters, Trenten, Tyler, Seth, Braden, Katelynn, Colby and Colton Pollet, Timothy Yokum, Kyle and Jayson Cuppy, Skyler and Bryce Walden, Cortney Sczuka, Dominic Tucker, Shamara Doughty, Treytin, Shakyia, and Treyvion Trester; 3 great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.
Cremation will take place.
A memorial gathering to celebrate John's life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. on Saturday September 9, 2023, at The Venue, Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas 66749.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Feuerborn Family Funeral Service to help defer John's final expenses, or the ALS Fund at The University of Kansas Medical Center. They can be sent to Feuerborn Family Funeral Service 1883 Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas 66749.
