John J. Folsom, age 67, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at his home.
Johnny Joe Folsom was born on January 25, 1955, at Kansas City, Kansas. He was the fourth of six children born to Floyd "Ted" and Genevieve (Lepillier) Folsom. John's family moved to Parker, Kansas in 1963, John graduated from Prairie View High School with the class of 1974. Following high school, he began working at the Osawatomie State Hospital, working there for several years. In 1997 John began working at Bauman's Furniture and Carpet in Garnett. He then began working for the Garnett School District and retired after ten years of service there in 2017.
While working at the state hospital in 1992, John took a particular interest in his co-worker, Wanda, their relationship blossomed and they were married in 1995. Their families were blended and they enjoyed thirty years together. In his free time John enjoyed golfing, grilling and smoking meats. He loved to raise a large garden each year and then share tomatoes and cucumbers with family and friends. His greatest joy was being "Papa" to his grandkids. To those who knew John, they will miss his willingness to help anyone who needed it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Folsom in 1994, and Genevieve Folsom in 2014; and his sister, Gennie Folsom in 2011.
John is survived by his wife, Wanda Folsom, of the home; five children, Jason Folsom and Angela of Osawatomie, Kansas, Wendy Watts of Osawatomie, Jonathan Folsom of Texas, Chelsey Mattics and Jesse of Osawatomie, Kansas and, Alyssa Harkins and Jason of Garnett; thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four brothers, Bill Folsom and Gloria of Paola, Kansas, Ted Folsom and Sharon of Osawatomie, Kansas, Charlie Folsom and Debbie of Gardner, Kansas, Dan Folsom of Osawatomie, Kansas; and many other family members and friends.
