Jim Roush

Jimmie "Jim" Lee Roush, age 82, of Iola, Kansas, passed away at his home on March 14, 2024, surrounded by loving family.

Jim was born on October 31, 1941, in Fort Scott, Kansas, to Wilbur Clark and Ruth (Mott) Roush. He joined the Army National Guard in 1959 and served through 1961. Before he left the military, he married Virginia "Ginger" Linthicum on May 25, 1961. From that union, he had three children. They settled in Iola in 1970, where Jim went to work at Berg/Midland/Haldex. He worked there for twenty-five years before retiring in 2001.

After retirement, Jim joined his wife in operating an in-home daycare, where they loved all the children they cared for. Together, they did this for twenty-three years. In early years, he and Ginger would Square dance and were members of the Iola Red Hots. They also sold ceramics at craft shows and later had a bounce house for the kids to enjoy. Jim liked fishing and hunting, and was a member of the Iola Auxiliary Police. He especially loved his garden, planting anything and everything he thought he could grow. Jim was even talking about needing to get his garden started this year. Every season, Jim and his grandson, Nick, would make homemade sauerkraut, which they would eat right out of the jar.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Roush; mother-in-law, Dessie Downs; and brother-in-laws, Dean Head and Randy Linthicum.

He is survived by his wife, Ginger; son, Tom (Beverly) Roush of Iola; daughters, Kathleen (Craig) Edwards of Lee Summit, Missouri, and Tina (Brian) Donovan of Iola; brother, W.C. (Margaret) Roush of Topeka; sisters, Betty (Dave) Buckner of Joplin, Missouri, and Linda Head of Iola; sister-in-laws, Toni Roush of Oregon, Mary Jane (Gary) Garver of Iola, and Linda Cyrus of Arkansas City; brother-in-law, Sam (Sandra) Linthicum of Alabama; grandchildren, Amanda, Drew, Matt, Randy, Nick, Chase, and Robert; and great-grandchildren, Max, Olivia, Alena, Liam, Owen, Alex, Andrew, Harper, Wryn, Hank, and another on the way.

A memorial service for Jim is planned for March, 20, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54 in Iola. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Iola. The family will be present for a visitation prior to the service, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., on March 20, 2024 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Iola Community Church of the Nazarene (memo: Uganda) and left in the care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
