George James Finical

George Finical, age 77, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026, at his home surrounded by his daughter and her friends.

He was born on April 3, 1949, in Burlington, Kansas, the son of George Wilbur and Ina Mae (Beer) Finical. George grew up outside Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1967.

George worked for many years as a construction inspector in road and bridge construction and was proud of his contributions to the Flint Hills Rails to Trail project.

Known for his great personality and a good-natured, ornery streak, George was a straightforward and generous man. When he decided to get something done, he handled it right away without hesitation. He took strong pride in keeping a meticulous, immaculate yard, loved gardening, and growing flowers. George was a bit of a foodie, which included buying many kitchen gadgets to try out new recipes; yet he also enjoyed going out to eat, frequenting his favorite local spots where the staff always knew him by name. He loved being outside on the farm and spending time with the animals, including the cats, but especially his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Wilbur and Ina Mae Finical, his nephew, Eric Finical, and beloved pup, Pandy.

George is survived by his daughter, Darcy Johnson, sister, Sharen Caldwell, brother, Richard, and their families; as well as many extended family members, neighbors, friends, and pets.

Memorials are suggested to Coffey County Cancer Support Group or National FFA Foundation and can be left in the care of the funeral home.
