Dorothy Dice, age 96, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Vintage Park of Osawatomie.
On December 17, 1925, Dorothy Ruth Jackson was born at home near Bronson, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur Glen and Esther Martha (Reynolds) Jackson. Dorothy was the fifth of seven children, she had three sisters and three brothers.
She married Fred L. Dice, Jr. on March 21, 1947, at Iola, Kansas, and had two children, Robert and Anita, whom they raised in Garnett, Kansas.
Dorothy worked as a school cafeteria cook at Garnett High School, a cashier at the S&W Grocery Store, and at Page's Locker Plant. She was also a Cub Scout Leader, dance mom, and a room mother for her children for many years.
Dorothy loved her family! Nothing made her happier than spending time with them and watching all the commotion around her. She loved talking sports, watching grandkids play ball, KU Basketball, the Kansas City Royals, and Chiefs Football. In her younger years, Dorothy loved to bowl with the Anderson County Sale Barn ladies. She loved to go to the casinos with her dear friend, Margaret, and out to eat on these adventures. Dorothy was a very proud woman who made it a point always to look her best; hair done, makeup, and lipstick on! She is described by many as a classy lady with a big heart. Dorothy was an excellent cook and loved a clean house. She loved her Dairy Queen strawberry sundaes and desserts!
Dorothy spent her final three years living at Vintage Park Assisted Living in Osawatomie, Kansas. She made many friends while there and the facility staff were the most caring, gracious, and loving individuals, treating Dorothy as their own loved one. We could not have asked for better care for our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on her journey home.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Dice on April 11, 1989; siblings, Lorraine Mann and husband, Delbert; Katherine Deer and husband, Percy; Virginia Henderson and husband, Olin; Glen Jackson and wife, Lucille; Cecil Jackson and wife, Dottie; Jim Jackson; grandson, Jerry Dice; and a very dear friend, Leonard Benjamin.
