Doris Church

January 5, 1925 — October 1, 2023

Doris Church, age 98, of Lone Elm, Kansas passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023 in Iola, Kansas with her family by her side.

Doris Arlene Garver was born January 5, 1925 at Lone Elm, Kansas. She was the third of four children born to Ray and Nora Grace (Hamilton) Garver. She grew up in the Lone Elm community where she attended school. On March 5, 1945, Doris was united in marriage to Joe Church. Their union was blessed with four children, Patty Jo, Linda, Susan, and Jody. Doris and Joe made their home in the Lone Elm area. Doris was a working farm wife, working as a CNA at the Anderson County Hospital, Moran Manor and also working as a home healthcare aide. She was integral on the farm and she enjoyed attending area shodeos and saddle club events. Doris also accompanied Joe on many trips with their covered wagon and trail rides. Doris loved collecting many types of antiques, some of her favorites were turquoise jewelry, fruit jars, copper kettles, wood stoves and irons. Doris and Joe loved to dance and attended countless area dances.

Just like Doris' jet black hair she had a colorful personality to match. You didn't need to wait long to learn Doris' opinion, she said what she meant and meant what she said. If you enjoyed a meal at Doris' home, you could always count on dessert being the highlight of the meal. Family traditions for holidays and birthdays were special events to Doris and she could always be counted on to bring some special treat.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, Joe on October 26, 2011; grandson, Dan Ramsey on June 27, 2019; three great grandchildren, Megan and Regan Ramsey, and Jaden Terry; son in law, Vernon "Slug" Ellis; sister, Evelyn Hermstein; and brother, Delbert Garver.

She is survived by her four children, Patty Jo Ramsey and husband, Deane of Lone Elm, Kansas, Linda Ellis of LaCygne, Kansas, Susan Luedke and husband, Jerry of Colony, Kansas, Jody Church and wife, Shayla of Colony; seven grandchildren; Don and Dusty Ramsey; Angie Terry; Jarred and Justin Luedke; Cody and Casey Church; nineteen great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; brother, Gary Garver and wife, Janie of Iola, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews.
