Donna Kathleen Westerman, 75, of Colony, Kansas, passed away on April 26, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by the love of her family.
Donna was born on January 29, 1951, in Boone, Iowa, to Donald and Kate (Auld) Carter. She grew up with a strong foundation of compassionate qualities that would define the way she lived her life and served those around her.
A woman of unwavering faith, Donna faced years of health challenges with quiet strength. As her journey on earth came to a close, she found peace in knowing she would be welcomed into eternal life, and that her legacy would live on through her children and the countless young lives she influenced in Colony.
Donna dedicated much of her life to serving her community. She worked for the City of Colony as a librarian, where her kindness and gentle guidance made a lasting impression. She was also deeply involved with Crest USD 479, where she became a familiar and cherished presence. Whether cheering from the stands or faithfully sitting behind the score table at Crest games, Donna was always there supporting, encouraging, and showing up for the kids. Even when carrying her portable oxygen, her commitment never wavered. Her presence spoke volumes about her character: selfless, dependable, and rooted in love.
Above all, Donna was devoted to her family. She was blessed with four children: Daniel R. Smith, Jeremy M. Smith, Mika A. Mader, and Andrea R. Brattin. She took great pride in each of them and found immense joy in her role as a mother and grandmother. Her love extended to her eight grandchildren, who were among her greatest blessings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and niece Jessica K. Carter.
Donna is survived by her four children, Daniel R. and wife Carla Smith, Jeremy M. Smith, Mika A. and husband Brian Mader, and Andrea Rae and husband Joey Brattin; her brother, Doug and wife Mary Carter; and her eight grandchildren, Bumble Ard, Layton Stowell, Liam and Koen Brattin, RaeLynn Morrison, and Edward, August, Charlotte Mader; nieces and nephews that she considered her own children, Shawna Carter, Sara Hall, and Dexter Carter.
Donna will be remembered as a strong pillar of faith, a devoted mother, and a constant source of encouragement within her community. Her life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love, and unwavering service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but the impact she made will continue to be felt for generations to come.
