Darrold Tawney

August 4, 1955 — March 5, 2024

Darrold Dean Tawney, 68, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on March 5, 2024.

Darrold was born on August 4, 1955 to Alton and Nelda (Hager) Tawney in Garnett, Kansas. He attended Garnett High School with the class of 1975.

Darrold spent over 30 years working as a glazer for Carter Glass where he invested himself with the union, retiring in 2018.

Darrold had a passion for collecting various items, particularly cars which he thoroughly enjoyed restoring. You could often find him at auctions searching for his next treasure.

Darrold spent over 25 years with the love of his life, Vena Powls, where they made their home in Garnett. This union built a life full of memories, including gaining the important title of PAPA. Darrold held a special place in his heart for his children and grandchildren and found it hard to tell them no, especially when it involved ice cream trips. Although he claimed the trips were for the kids, Darrold had a weakness for sweets along with Vena's delicious cinnamon rolls. Darrold's pride really resided in his family, friends, work, and hobbies. If you had ever driven through the Kansas City and surrounding areas with Darrold, you'd know there's seemingly a building around every corner where he would tell you a story about the job he did on it. His kids made him burst with pride and he never let a moment pass where he didn't let them know how proud he was of their accomplishments in life. He would often joke, "I used to talk and show pictures of my cars, now all I do is show pictures of my grandkids."

Darrold will be remembered for his hard-working dedication, his love for his family and his heart of gold.

Darrold is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; baby sister, Marilynn and nephew, Steve Hood.

Darrold is survived by his wife Vena; children, NaKisha Watts, Autumn Falk and husband Joe, Ryan Romig, Reanna Hardgrave and husband Nick; 9 precious grandchildren; brothers, Larry Tawney and wife Christine, Wayne Tawney and wife Sandy, sister Marsha (Tawney) Newbanks; along with several nieces, nephews and many other family members.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas.
