Constance Marie Egidy

December 13, 1934 — January 13, 2024

On the 13th day of January, 2024, Constance Marie Egidy, 89, took her final breath, surrounded by her loved ones. During a blizzard the world welcomed Connie on December 13th, 1934, a day amid the Great Depression the world became a better place. Despite arriving and departing in the coldest of winter, Connie lived a full and warm life, filled with love. She will be fondly remembered and immensely missed.

Connie was born to Edward and Fern Lucas in Kansas City, KS. After graduating from Bishop Ward High School in 1953, she went on to study elementary education at Avila College, graduating in 1957. After graduation, she began her first job as a teacher in Kansas City, MO, starting a short career in education, but supporting the first years of an integrated school system. In addition to teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic, she provided life lessons and care beyond the school day. Connie also taught for several years in Colony, KS during her early years of building a family.

In the summer of 1962, Connie met William Egidy, and they wed a few months later on Thanksgiving. Their union produced four daughters and three sons. After relocating to Greeley, KS, Connie worked as a Mental Health Technician and Medication Aide at Osawatomie State Hospital. She went on to study nursing and completed her degree at Neosho County Community College. Upon becoming a nurse, Connie continued her career at Osawatomie State Hospital as a psych nurse for a total of 20 years. After relocating to Kansas City to be close to her children and grandchildren, Connie continued her nursing career serving geriatric patients in multiple facilities in the Kansas City area.

At the age of 75, Connie finally retired. Throughout life and retirement, Connie loved most the time spent with children and family, to her, everyone was family. She was devoted to mentoring everyone in her circle, providing and nurturing with her steadfast love. Connie loved reading and crosswords and was rarely seen without a book in her hand. She loved watching the news and never shied away from a political conversation. She enjoyed musicals, listening to music and hearing her grandchildren play instruments. While not a green thumb, Connie loved gardening and surrounded herself with house plants. She loved trips to the The River Market, The KC Zoo, the Library, The Starlight and all family get togethers. Although she could not swim, she loved camping and going on the yearly family rafting trip for over 25 years. Above all else, Connie was a devout Catholic, always finding solace in prayer, and her strong faith carried her through all the struggles and celebrations she had on earth.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents and her late husband. She is survived by: Siblings Edward Lucas, Mississippi and Thomas Lucas, Georgia. Children: Mary Lu (Mike) Muntzel, Belton, MO., Michele (Diego) Guerrero, Topeka, KS., Patricia Egidy, Edgerton, KS., Katie Egidy, Kansas City, KS., Gerard (Kimberly) Egidy, Fontana, KS., Robert (Erin) Egidy, Ottawa, KS., Thomas Egidy.
