Charles Austin (Tillie) Tilman, Jr., age 92, of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away June 2, 2024, at Medicalodges of Iola. Til was born July 22, 1931, to Charles Austin Tilman, Sr. and Enos J. (Moody) Divelbliss.
Til graduated in 1949 from Humboldt High School. He and Kathryn Morgan were married September 23, 1951, in Iola, Kansas.
Til worked 42 years for Monarch Cement Company, retiring in 1993 as the purchasing agent.
Til was a member of the Humboldt United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, a 66-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Mirza Shrine, Eastern Star, and BPOE.
Til was a fan of the Humboldt Cubs, where he ran the football chains for 52 years and also ran the time clock for Cubs basketball. He was a life-long KU fan, KC Chiefs fan, and Kansas City Royals fan. Til spent countless hours watching his grandkids play sports. He was an avid golf player and horseshoe player. Til loved working with wood, making all kinds of wood projects. He and Kathryn loved watching bluebirds.
Til was an active member of the H & H breakfast club. He was known for his unique sense of humor and jokes.
Til was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; his parents; and his siblings, Lewis (Lenora) Hottenstein, John (Barbara) Hottenstein, Paul (Beatrice) Hottenstein, Robert (Virginia) Hottenstein, Mary (Jerry) Kinney, Fred Tilman, Elizabeth (Keith) Smothers.
Til is survived by daughter, Rita Jane (J.R.) Hill, Lenoir City, Tennessee; sons, Chuck Tilman, Ottawa, Kansas, Jeff (Gloria) Tilman, Humboldt, Kansas; grandchildren, Joshua (Melanie) Hill, Jennifer (Jeff) Taylor, Adam (Shana) Tilman, Bradley (Evelyn) Tilman, Cara (Tyler) Thomas, Drake Tilman; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Chris Tilman, Shirley Morgan, and numerous other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. Burial with Masonic graveside honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas.
