Catherine Marie (Jagodzinski) Gregg, lovingly known as Katie, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 89 years old.
Katie was born on December 14, 1936, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Alex and Stella Jagodzinski. She grew up in a large family with many siblings: Georgie, Carl, Freddie, Jimmy, Louie, Tony, Tommy, Hattie, Eleanor, Delores, and Mary Ann. On October 6, 1956, Katie married Archie W. Gregg. They had two children: Theresa Gregg McGee and Deion Gregg.
Katie was a devoted worker throughout her life. She began her career as a seamstress at Sun Garments in St. Joseph before becoming a beautician. Eventually, she worked at Whitaker Cables. In 1971, Katie and Archie purchased a farm in Bourbon County, where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Family was the heart of Katie's life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and most of her siblings. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Deion and Roxy Roush Gregg, and Theresa and Marion McGee; four grandchildren and their spouses, Rebecca (Matthew) Rousar, Nick (Mercedies) Gregg, Shayla (Rusty) Snyder, and Nathaniel (Amanda) McGee; and ten great-grandchildren, Ezra, Cece, Rennea, Addison, Brady, Jerry Paul, Logan, Kiara, Elliette, and Brynlee. She is also survived by two sisters, Delores Jagodzinski Graf and Mary Ann Jagodzinski Newey, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Katie had a lifelong love of basketball. Though only five feet tall, she played high school basketball and later coached a city league basketball team in St. Joseph. She was a proud and devoted fan of the KU Jayhawks, rarely missing a game on television.
She also loved being active and working with her hands. Katie found joy in cooking, sewing, gardening, and canning vegetables-always with the goal of caring for and providing for her family. Her family loved everything she cooked, but especially her homemade chicken and noodles. Her home was a place of warmth and generosity.
Katie had a special love for hummingbirds. Every summer for many years, she faithfully fed them, going through nearly ten pounds of sugar a week to keep their feeders full. While she sat outside watching them drink, the hummingbirds grew so comfortable with her presence that they would perch on her shoulders.
Katie will be remembered for her resilience, her love of family, and the many ways she showed her care through action. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and the lives she touched.
