Carolyn J. Moore

June 7, 1947 — November 17, 2025

Carolyn Joyce (Shepard) Moore, age 78, of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at St. Luke's on the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. Carolyn was born on June 7, 1947, in St. Paul, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur Shepard and Eva Mae (Powell) Shepard.

Carolyn grew up in a close and loving family, rooted in faith and service. As a teenager she traveled each summer by train to Minnesota to babysit her niece and nephew, forming bonds that lasted a lifetime. Her nieces and nephews were like children to her, and the entire Shepard family remained tightly knit throughout the years.

Carolyn married the love of her life, Ron Moore, on April 1, 1967, in Parsons, Kansas. The two met through friends, and together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and love.

Carolyn was a woman of remarkable warmth, kindness, and quiet strength. She loved every family member or stranger the same, carried a huge heart, and was known for always having a smile on her face. Doctors and nurses recalled that no matter the situation, her smile never faded. She was loving, but strict enough to ensure her children were raised right and proper, reminding them often that "everything had its place." Her greatest joy was being "Nana," a title she cherished deeply. She never missed a game, event, or milestone of her grandchildren.

Carolyn attended the Methodist Church in Humboldt and lived out her faith in the way she served others. She completed a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from Pittsburg State. After she dedicated many years as an administrator in long-term care, working at Countryside Nursing Home in Iola, she was inspired to earn her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, before moving to Pinecrest Nursing Home in Humboldt. She was admired for her leadership, compassion, and ability to make any workplace feel like home.

Carolyn was known for her exceptional cooking, especially her famous chicken and noodles. Her kitchen was always immaculate, the table always set perfectly, and every meal contained all five food groups. She created many family favorites including wacky cake, fruit salad with marshmallows, chicken pot pie, potato soup, and her 13-bean soup, which her daughter Courtney loved even when no one else did. She had a gift for making the most random ingredients taste amazing. Fourth of July and Christmas were her favorite holidays, and she decorated and hosted large gatherings filled with laughter, homemade treats, and family traditions. Her prime rib at Christmas was legendary.

Carolyn and Ron shared many adventures throughout their marriage. They traveled across the country on their motorcycle and kept a map marked with every state they visited together. Before their motorcycle years they vacationed with their daughters at Worlds of Fun, took many trips to Big Hill and Parsons lake on camping adventures that included skiing early on mornings when the water was smooth as glass, Carolyn could not swim, her daughter Shannon recalls, "She would never miss a trip on the boat.", as well as took many memorable trips to Branson.

Carolyn and Ron were the kind of parents others admired. Friends often remarked how lucky their children were, and over the years the Moore household welcomed many "kids" who were not related by blood but were loved and cared for just the same. They asked no questions and opened their home to anyone who needed a safe and supportive place.

Community service was important to Carolyn. She served on the Allen County Fair Board for many years and especially loved serving meals to the cowboys who came to town for the rodeo. Her sense of hospitality and her desire to serve others were hallmarks of her life.

Carolyn is reunited with her husband of 52 years, Ronald Moore; parents Arthur and Eva Mae Shepard; siblings, Verlin Shepard, Delbert Shepard, Phyllis "Jeanie" Madl, Chauncey Shepard.

Carolyn is survived by Daughters, Shannon Moore and wife Shelley Stuber of Humboldt and Courtney and husband Jason Bauer of Iola; grandchildren, Dillon and wife Kim Aikins, Mykayla and husband Aaron Callahan, Jackson and wife Taylor Aikins, and Nickolas Bauer; great grandchildren, Mason Moore, Emberlynn Callahan, Kye Callahan, and Lorelei Aikins; sister, Artie Lewis; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.
