Carolyn Sue Kirkpatrick Clubine passed away on September 26, 2025, at Medicalodges of Iola. She was born March 26, 1942, to Allen L. Kirkpatrick and Violet Irene Dye Kirkpatrick in her grandparents' home at Farmersburg, KS, as the oldest of eight.
She enjoyed her elementary years at Niotaze School, graduating Eighth Grade as Valedictorian. During her sophomore year at Havana High School, she met Frank Clubine who swept her off her feet and they were married on May 25, 1958.
Frank and Carolyn made their home in the Havana area. By 1965, Frank and Carolyn with their 4 small children moved to the Clubine Family Farm east of Havana where Frank grew up. They raised kids, cows and crops while being quite involved in the community. As her children were going off to school, she decided to fulfill her desire to have a high school diploma, so she went to Wayside High School to finish her last two years. Later, she enrolled in various classes at both Coffeyville Community College and Independence College. Carolyn was a lifelong reader and enjoyed reading to any child that would sit and listen.
Carolyn was active as the local 4-H Club Community Leader, Kansas Holstein Association Junior Advisor, American Simmental Association Kansas Junior Advisor, Caney FFA Alumni Association supporter and Havana United Methodist Church member. When she wasn't doing the farm bookkeeping and running errands, she worked off the farm at various times at KGGF Radio, Citizen's National Bank and as a USD 436 Vo-Tech Bus Driver. Carolyn and Frank were Montgomery County Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher leaders. Then Carolyn served as Women's Chair for the organization.
She and Frank enjoyed music, both singing and dancing together. Their 25th Anniversary was celebrated by blocking off the street in downtown Havana for a street dance for the whole community. Over the years, Carolyn found a number of bands, church choirs and singing groups to lend her strong soprano voice that was cultivated during family gatherings where everyone, young and old, crowded around the piano to raise their voices as one out in the Chautauqua Hills.
Her life took a turn when they moved from the family farm to work near Bucyrus. She found the Bucyrus Cafe as an outlet for her talents in making pies for their faithful customers. While in Bucyrus, Carolyn helped out in the fall of 1987 when three of their 9 grandchildren were born.
In 1989, Frank and Carolyn moved to Iola where their son, Harry, worked for Strickler Holstein Dairy. Carolyn found work at General Repair as Bookkeeper, USD 257 Transportation Dept., and Calvary United Methodist Church Secretary. She volunteered to deliver Senior Meals on Wheels, supported the Iola Citizen Patrol "Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs" event and as part of the cast in numerous Community Theater Productions at the Bowlus. Carolyn was an active member of the Christian Women's Club as well as the Gideon's International Auxiliary, putting countless Gideon Bibles into the hands of those who sought answers about God.
Continuing with the family tradition of Farm Bureau leadership, Carolyn served Allen County Farm Bureau as Safety Chair and Women's Chair. She and Frank were honored as Farm Family of the Year and recognized as Farm Marshalls for the Iola Farm City Days celebration.
When the opportunity came along for Carolyn and Frank to be "snowbirds", she enjoyed traveling, over-wintering at Rio Frio, TX, where they were part of the "Pickin 'N Grinnin" group and attended church at Utopia, TX.
Carolyn loved her family and showed it when she worked in the Niotaze School kitchen so that her siblings could receive school lunches and when she loaded up a trailer load of cattle and kids to drive to the Kansas State Fair or to Salina or Fort Worth and when she cheered on grandchildren showing at various fairs or playing sports or performing in the fine arts productions and the many other activities her family enjoyed.
Carolyn was extremely blessed by the many friends she has made through the years and from the many places she has lived. The caring staff and residents at Medicalodges Iola have made her feel like family. She loved gardening and enjoyed the fruit of her labor. She met Jesus as a young girl and called Him "Friend". She would encourage each of you to do the same.
Thank you for coming today to celebrate the life of Carolyn!
