Bonnie Beauchamp, age 88, of Chanute, Kansas, formerly of Garnett, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at CREDO Retirement Living Center in Chanute.
Bonnie Mae Peters was born on July 31, 1937, in Garnett, Kansas, the daughter (middle child) of Ellsworth "Pete" and Viola (Smart) Peters. She was born in a house that was located 1 1/2 miles south of Garnett. This house was moved to Garnett years later and is now located on the Northwest corner of Park Road and Oak Street, and there it still remains. After Bonnie was born, they moved to Rantoul, Kansas, and lived there until her brother, Ron was born five years later, then they moved back to Garnett to 216 W. 7th Street. She and Janice started school at Longfellow - no Kindergarten back in those "antique" days. She graduated from Garnett High School in 1955. Gary Beauchamp and Bonnie had their first date at Jr/Sr Prom their senior year. Then went to Emporia Teacher's College one year.
Gary and Bonnie were married on April 21, 1957 on Easter Sunday in the First United Methodist Church in Garnett. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Gary passed away in 2019.
Bonnie spent her career working at Garnett State Savings and Loan, USD 365 School District Office, Graham School for Cattlemen, and finished at Kansas State Bank, until 1994.
Bonnie and Gary started early retirement at the age of 57. They spent these years traveling with their Hallmark friends, many times to the mountains in Colorado. They enjoyed following their grandsons to their basketball games and ALWAYS making friends wherever they went.
Bonnie got her new home with a basement in 2001, that Gary always promised her he would build her one day. She lived in this home until December 2020 and then moved to Chanute, Kansas, to be closer to Marcia and Ken a year after Gary had passed away.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gary Beauchamp; her brother, Ronald Peters; and her sister, Janice Hodgson.
She is survived by Marcia (Ken) Lickteig, Bret (Emily and Bryce), Todd (Lindsay and Brooklyn, Karlie, Sophie); Curtis (Dana) Beauchamp, Tyffany (Jeff and Brodie and Arlie); Jeff (Myrna) Beauchamp; brother-in-law, Delton Hodgson and sister-in-law, Jana Peters; nieces, nephews, Oreo; Nick and Sandy; Allison; many friends; and her special CREDO family.
A Celebration of Bonnie's Life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Garnett Church of the Nazarene. Memorial contributions may be made to Castaway Animal Shelter and Sanctuary, Chanute, Kansas, and left in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.feuerbornfuneral.com
