Arnold "Arnie" Lickteig

May 16, 1931 — July 31, 2025

Arnold Joseph Lickteig, age 94, formerly of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Colonial Oaks Senior Living at Spring Hill in Spring Hill, Kansas.

Arnie was born on May 16, 1931, on a farm east of Greeley, Kansas, he was the third child born to Joseph B. and Mary (Scott) Lickteig. He attended a little school house called Hickory Grove. Arnie later attended Greeley High graduating with the Class of 1950. After graduation he worked for Ben Brummel Construction erecting steel bins until he joined the United States Marine Corp serving from January 11th 1952 to January 7th 1954 during the Korean War. Arnie received the National Defense medal, Korean Service medal with two stars and the United Nations Service medal. He then transferred from US Mo SS to Marine Corp Reserve with obligated service until discharged on January 10, 1960. After returning from his time in the service he started his career at Kansas Department of Transportation until retiring on May 17, 1992 as a resident engineer.

Arnold married the love of his life Agnes M. Rockers on October 11, 1954, in Scipio, Kansas. They moved to the family farm in May 1964, raising seven kids that he was so proud of.

Arnie took pride in a life of hard work, balancing his duties at KDOT with the joys and challenges of farm life. He took great pride tending to his farm and cattle daily. He loved to coon hunt, fish and go froggin', or visiting with friends, never knowing a stranger. Those that had the privilege of knowing him also heard his auctioneering skills, maybe at a church auction or maybe at a dance in Greeley selling a brown bag of dandelion seeds. With such a big family grandpa had a hard time remembering names so most of his grandkids he called "Peanut".

It was a tradition to have all the family gatherings at the farm, many special memories were made at Uncle Arnie and Aunt Aggies.

Arnie was a lifetime member of the VFW and St. John's Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph B. and Mary Lickteig; his wife of 66 years, Agnes Lickteig; two grandchildren, Timothy Jared Lickteig and Michelle Dawn Johnson; one great- grandson, Gracien Edward Lickteig; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Ann Lickteig; brothers, Leon Lickteig, Melvin and his wife JoAnn Lickteig, Martin and his wife Pauline Lickteig; sister, Lucille and husband Neil Foger; sister-in-law, Janie Lickteig.
