Anthony Dean Briggs, 79, passed away on July 31, 2024, surrounded by family at his daughter and son-in-law's home.
He was born on July 21, 1945, in Eureka, Kansas; the son of Ocie Briggs and Cora Margaret Liver Chair Briggs.
On August 14, 1965, he married the love of his life, Dona May "Mazie" Briggs at the Madison United Methodist Church.
Dean and Mazie lived in Eureka before moving to a farm East of Madison in the late 1960's. In the early 1970's, they moved to Garden City, KS where Dean began his career at WW Feeders, which later became Gigot Feeders. Dean was with Gigot Feeders until the early 1980's. In 1985, Dean went to work for Max Jantz Excavating as their expert excavator and operator as well as the supervisor of his own crew. Dean was extremely passionate about his work, paying attention to fine detail. He was part of numerous disaster relief efforts helping clean up communities such as after the devastating tornado in Hoisington, KS. In November of 2018 he retired from Max Jantz Excavating.
Dean and Mazie were members of the Moose Lodge and loved dancing. They could be seen every Saturday night cutting a rug on the dance floor. Dean also loved the rodeo and often team roped with his buddies. Dean and Mazie were master card players and would never turn down a good pitch game with family and friends.
Dean and Mazie moved to Iola, Kansas in 2019 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In retirement Dean enjoyed wood working in his shop behind his house. He spent countless hours building everything from custom furniture, elaborate frames, wooden ornate specialty items, and various other novelties for his family and friends all the while loving every minute of it.
Dean will live in the hearts of his children, Lori and Scott McNutt of La Harpe, Kansas, and Krista and Alan Klug, of Riley, Kansas. A brother, Earl Dale Briggs of La Harpe, Kansas, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mazie, his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
The family will meet friends on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. A funeral service for Dean will follow, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024 in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Janesville Cemetery in Hamilton, Kansas.
