Ann Jocine Steinbacher, 89, of Kansas City passed away at home on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Graveside services for Ann Jocine Steinbacher and Albert Joseph Steinbacher will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 15, 2024, at the St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio, Kansas.

A funeral mass for Ann will be held at St. Peter's Parish on March 15, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held prior to mass at 9:00 AM at the church. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Operation Breakthrough.

She was born on September 25, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri, to George and Margaret (Costello) Clark. She married Albert Joseph Steinbacher at St. Peter's Parish on January 26, 1957.

Ann grew up in Kansas City, attending the Loretto Academy and Hogan High School. Then, she attended the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority and sampled many majors but eventually graduated in 1956 with a degree in Biology. After starting their family in Lawrence, Kansas, they returned to Kansas City in 1966.

She was active in St. Peter's Parish and Rockhurst High School, notably the Sale-o-Rama. Ann and Joe were founding members of Community One and active in the early days of Operation Breakthrough. Ann enjoyed working in accounting for Gilbert Robinson during the 1990's. Ann and Joe spent their retirement traveling, patronizing the arts, and making memories with family and friends.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Joseph Steinbacher, on March 15, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her younger sister Elizabeth (Timothy) Sodd.

Surviving are her two children, Josie Relph and husband, Ross, of Lenexa, Kansas and Mike Steinbacher of Prairie Village, Kansas; four grandchildren, Rebecca Relph, Emily Lynn and husband, Garrett, Michael Steinbacher and wife, Sara, and Joseph Steinbacher.


Albert Joseph Steinbacher Albert Joseph Steinbacher, 91, passed away at home on Friday, March 15, 2019, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Joe was the middle son of 9 children born to Lee and Lena Steinbacher. Joe was born in Scipio, Kansas on August 24, 1927. He enlisted in the Navy at 17 and served in World War II aboard a troop transport ship in the Philippines at Mindanao. Joe was called back for the Korean War, crossing the Pacific 22 times aboard the USS Windham Bay, a light aircraft carrier, delivering planes to Japan. Joe returned home to attend the University of Kansas, graduating in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in business. He was also a founding member of the Theta Chi Fraternity at KU and served as the President of the Intra-Fraternity Council. At this time, he met and married his wife, Ann. They originally lived in Lawrence, Kansas, but eventually moved to Kansas City, Missouri where they were active in St. Peter's Parish and Rockhurst High School. Joe and Ann were also founding members of Community One. In 1996, Joe retired from Brown and Loe Produce Brokers after working there for 35 years.

At the time of his death, Joe was survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his daughter, Josie Relph, her husband Ross and their daughters Rebecca and Emily; his son Mike and his sons Michael and Joseph. He was also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Whited, Pauline Lamming and Roberta Steinbacher along with numerous nieces and nephews.
