Anita A. Barnett

Anita Ann Barnett, age 94, of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away May 14, 2023, at her residence. Anita was born June 7, 1928, in Arkansas City, Kansas, to Warren Alexander Bunch and Mary Minerva (Taylor) Bunch.

In 1940, her family moved to a farm outside Paola, Kansas. She went to grade school and three years of high school in Fontana, Kansas, and attended Paola High School her senior year. After attending Emporia State College, she taught 5th grade in Parsons and taught all eight grades in a rural country school that no longer exists east of Humboldt.

On April 27, 1950, she married Harold Barnett and moved into the new house that he built on 600 Mulberry Street in Humboldt. While Harold served in the United States Signal Corps during the Korean War, Anita worked as a quality inspector at the Sunflower Ordinance Defense Plant near Eudora, Kansas, that produced rocket powder.

In 1955, Harold and Anita bought their first 40 acres and began farming. Anita kept farm books, traded stocks, drove harvest trucks, marketed the grain, and was an active partner in farming. Harold and Anita won soil and water conservation awards in 1978 and Anita in 2018.

She was a much-loved grandma, who hosted numerous family events for grandkids and great-grandkids, making a wonderful time for all the cousins. She loved the special times and events with her family.

Anita was preceded in death by her spouse, Harold, of 61 years in 2011; sister, Roberta McDougal; and brothers, Michael and Willis Bunch.

Anita is survived by her five children, Leonard (Linda O'Connor) Barnett, Humboldt, Kansas, Mavis Ford, Imperial, Missouri, Lora (John) May, Humboldt, Kansas, Lorence (Sandy) Barnett, Humboldt, Kansas, Earl (Tina) Barnett, Mapleton, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Aubri, Naomi Dawn, Jean Daniel, Doran, Megan, Jennifer, Amy, Deedra, Randi, Zachary, Matthew; great-grandchildren, Allison Dawn, Max, Liam, Samuel, Drake, Serenity, Riley, Jacob, Jack, Zoe, Noah, Jackson, Colby, Austin, Kori, Ryan Rose, Parker, Carson, Spenser; brothers, Rex (Barbara) Bunch, Emerson (Wilda) Bunch, Norman (Dixie) Bunch; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. Inurnment at a later date will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas.
