Angela Diane Gordon

September 15, 1969 — January 25, 2026

Angela Gordon, age 56, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Angela Diane Gordon was born on September 15, 1969 to Roy A. "Pete" and Loretta Maxine Steward Gordon in Garnett, Kansas, the fourth child born to the family. Angie came into this world with many special needs. It was very important to Maxine for her children to be dedicated. This act symbolizes giving the child back to God, recognizing them as a gift from him. Angie truly was a "gift from God"! Angie was dedicated on March 1, 1970.

She started school at Lakemary in 1973, in the fall of 1990, her parents made the difficult decision to let her leave the nest and moved her to Faith Village where she lived until coming back home to Tri- Ko to be closer to family.

From Angela's baby book:

"Well honey, your sisters, Janet and Yvonne had been begging Mommy and Daddy for a baby for a long, long time. The doctor told me on January 24, 1969 that you were on the way. Your sisters were so happy and could hardly wait for your arrival. We put in a long, hot summer waiting for you. The whole family helped Mommy though and we made it. We expected you on September 10th or 11th. But you decided to wait until September 15 at 2:00 A.M. to signal you were coming. I woke Daddy up and he shaved and I wrote your sisters and brother a note and it was pouring down rain. We got to the hospital at 2:30 A.M. They put me in the labor room and Daddy was in the waiting room. You didn't make much fuss until around 5:30. They wheeled me into the delivery room at 5:55 and 20 minutes later they told me we had a baby girl."

Angie was a gift that arrived as a direct answer to a wish. Before she was born, her sisters prayed for a baby sister to love and protect, and for 56 years, they were blessed with exactly that. As a person with special needs, Angie's life was a masterclass in pure, uncomplicated love, and her sisters' devotion to her care was a testament to the bond they shared from the very beginning.

Angie's world was one of rhythm, melody, and simple comforts. She found great peace in the music of her church and the familiar tunes of children's songs. She loved the world around her, the quiet of sitting outside as well as had a profound love for the innocent things in life, babies and animals always brought a special sparkle to her eyes.

To spend time with Angie was to be greeted by her signature curiosity and warmth. To be in Angie's company was to be asked, "Are you my sweetie pie?" or a curious "Whatcha doing?" She had a legendary sweet tooth, often checking in with a hopeful, "Do you have a cookie?" or "Do you have gum?", before offering the ultimate affirmation: "Are you a good girl?" Family dinners were the highlight of her life, filled with laughter and a bit of playful caution. Those lucky enough to sit beside her knew to keep a close eye on their plates; Angie was a notorious "food thief," and she could make your dinner disappear with a mischievous grin before you even knew it was gone. This joyful spirit was shared with her very first friend, Holly Meliza, and her nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved with her whole heart.
In addition to her family, she was surrounded by a community that loved her and celebrated her unique spirit. To Angie, Tri-Ko wasn't just a facility; she truly felt "at home". She cherished the staff and friends there, and they in turn became a special part of her life's story. Angie leaves behind a legacy of laughter, catchy questions, and a reminder to always keep a close eye on your dinner plate when you're in good company. While she may have been the "baby sister" her siblings always wanted, she grew to be the heart of the family, a constant reminder of the joy found in a cookie, a song, and a life spent together.

Angie was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; and several aunts and uncles; and a cousin.

She is survived by her siblings, Mark (Suzanne) Gordon of Meridan, Kansas, Janet (Gordon) Stegner and Yvonne (Kevin) Ryan of Garnett, Kansas, Jonathan Gordon of Ottawa, Kansas; nieces and nephews, John (Barbara) Stegner, Melissa (Gabe) Shepard, Julie Youngblood, Crystal Ryan, Lyndsay (Sean) McElderry; as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins; uncle LeRoy and wife Joan Steward of Waverly, Kansas.
