A. Pauline Hawk

June 28, 1935 — July 22, 2025

A. Pauline Hawk, age 90, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Medicalodges in Iola.

Alice Pauline Baugher was born on June 28, 1935, in Garnett, Kansas. Pauline was the last of five children, born to Norris T. Baugher and Freda Frances (Hartman) Baugher. She moved to Iola at a young age with her family and graduated from Iola High School with the Class of 1953.

On May 24, 1953, Pauline was united in marriage to Dale R. Hawk at the First Christian Church in Iola. They lived in several communities before settling permanently in Iola in 1960. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and shared values. This union was blessed with three daughters Sandy and twins Diana and Donna. Pauline was lovingly known as, "Granny" to nine special Grandchildren.

Pauline earned her teaching degree from Emporia State University in 1969. That same year, she began her teaching career with USD 257, where she served as a dedicated and passionate educator for 26 years until her retirement in 1995. Pauline was known for her commitment to her students and her ability to leave a lasting impression on those she taught.

A woman of grace, strength, and deep love, Pauline cherished the handwritten love letters from her husband, Dale. She was an early member of the Carlyle Country Club, a Laureate of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, and a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Iola.

Pauline and Dale, both educators, took full advantage of their summers off. Along with their three daughters, they traveled the country each year, making special memories on road trips, especially their yearly getaways to Colorado and an unforgettable drive to Alaska in a camper.

Pauline had a love for reading, with romance novels being her favorite. She enjoyed watching television, always preferring entertainment over education, old westerns like Gunsmoke were among her top picks. In her free time, she sewed clothing for her daughters when they were young and later passed on her love of quilting to them.

She also found joy in teaching aqua aerobics, despite not being able to swim herself. Hosting friends and family brought her immense happiness. The Fourth of July was especially memorable, often celebrated with a large gathering of people camping and enjoying time together at the Hawk farm.

In 2022, Pauline made her home at Medicalodges in Iola, where she was lovingly cared for until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale Hawk, on February 12, 2013; Daughter Diana Wilhite, on July 25, 2022; Grandson Paul Martin, on February 21, 2004; her Parents; 2 sisters and a brother Erma Obsorn, Lowell Baugher, and Elaine Donovan.

She is survived by her daughters Sandy Frizell and Jon Caillouet, Donna and Larry Regehr; Son-in-Law Bob Wilhite; Eight grandchildren Nick, Keil, Ryan, Jolie, Logan, Garett, Brandy, Brian; 12 Great-Grandchildren; and one Great-Great Granddaughter; Brother E. Duane Baugher; and Several Nieces and Nephews.

Her legacy is one of love, laughter, learning, and strong family values, traits she instilled in those around her and which live on through her daughters and all who were blessed to know her.
