Alan Ard

Alan Melvin Ard, age 72, passed away surrounded by family in Iola, Kansas, on June 28, 2024.

Alan was born on August 22, 1951, in Chanute, Kansas, to Melvin and Edith (Daniels) Ard. He graduated from Chanute High School with the Class of 1969.

Alan began working in carpentry right out of high school, and continued the work he loved for the rest of his life. The most important part of his life was his family and friends. His favorite times were spent with his children and grandchildren. Alan's grandchildren were a point of personal pride, and he greatly enjoyed hearing about all their accomplishments.

Some of Alan's other passions included collecting antiques, hunting morel mushrooms, gardening, listening to John Prine's music, and watching KU basketball.

Alan was preceded in death by both his parents; and son-in-law, Darrell Chester.

Alan is survived by children, Breg (Corey) Finnegan, Karyn Ard-Chester, Jake Ard, and Lacy (Kevin) Wheeler; grandchildren, Grace, Kayl, Bumble, Skyler, Eliot, and Ainsley; sisters, Gail (Ron) Nurnberg, Barbara (Buddy) Brittingham, and Lori (Tim) Blackwood; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other close extended family.
