Yvonne Georgia Kettle, age 93, passed away on April 4, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Iola, Kansas.
Yvonne was born in Iola, Kansas, on November 17, 1926. Her parents were George and Ruby (Cota) Trowbridge. She attended schools in Iola, Kansas (grades 1-2), Dodge City, Kansas (3-4), Fort Dodge, Kansas (5-8), Hollywood, Florida (9-10), and Pryor, Oklahoma (grade 11) before graduating from Iola High School. She then worked at Cook’s Drug Store, Iola State Bank, and the Allen County Engineer’s Department. She married Fred Kettle on March 19, 1950. They farmed and raised their children in the Carlyle community until Fred’s death in 2001. Yvonne was confirmed as a member of the First Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Carlyle Presbyterian Church, and at the time of her death a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Iola, Kansas.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (James Fredrick Kettle), sisters Betty Anne Trowbridge Kress (and brother-in-law, Charles Kress) and Marlene Trowbridge Mazal (and brother-in-law, Stan Mazal). Yvonne had three nieces and five nephews.
She is survived by her four children: Alan (and wife, Brenda) of Austin, TX, Dean (and wife, Judy) of Lawrence, Donna of Iola, and Jon of Iola; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held with burial in Iola Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Yvonne’s name to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola and may be mailed to Feuerborn Family Funeral Service at 1883 U.S. HWY 54, Iola, KS 66749.
