Virginia Lee Schrant

October 10, 1934 — August 20, 2022

Virginia Lee Schrant, age 87, of Osawatomie, Kansas, formerly of Richmond, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at her home.

On October 10, 1934, at Walker, Kansas, Virginia was the seventh of seven children born to Henry and Catherine (Etzel) Schrant. Virginia grew up in Richmond, later to moving to Garnett. Since 1992, Virginia has lived in the Tri-Ko group home in Garnett and Osawatomie. While living in Richmond Virginia enjoyed the events hosted by the Farmer's Co-Op and she was a staple at the Richmond ball fields regardless of who was playing. She was there to cheer them on and offer her "coaching" from the stands. Ornery, may be the most appropriate word to capture Virginia's personality. She sucked you in with that twinkle in her eye and then followed up with her trademark question: "Are you married yet? Why not?" Virginia loved many of the simple pleasures of life, fried chicken, a cold pop or a beer, and a cigarette. In her "retirement" years she loved car rides through the country taking in the farms and farm animals as she spoke fondly of her youth. Some words of apology may be necessary for anyone who encountered Virginia on an electric shopping buggy at Wal-Mart. To this day there is no clear determination if Virginia was a bad driver or if her ornery personality was responsible for the wayward operation of those buggies. She also enjoyed playing pitch, but required a keen opponent as she was willing to bend the rules to favor herself. If you happened to catch her in any of her mischievous activities and asked why she was doing that, without fail, her answer was "because I can".

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Marie Truan, Louis Schrant, Herman Schrant, Ralph Schrant, Sr. Marcella Schrant, and Norbert Schrant.

She is survived by her niece, Linda Schnose and husband Greg of Lawrence, Kansas; three great nieces and their families, Christina Salazar and husband Luis of Lawrence, Kansas; Elise Abicht and husband Travis of Missoula, Montana, and Marcie Truan of California.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Richmond, Kansas. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio, Kansas. Her family will greet friends from 9:30AM until the service time on Thursday morning at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Ko Inc. and left in care of the funeral home.
