Raymond Howard Colvin

Raymond Howard Colvin, age 87, of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute, Kansas. Ray was born November 9, 1931, in Stark, Kansas to William and Bessie (James) Colvin. He was one of fourteen children.
Ray graduated from Humboldt High School. Ray married Joan Fugitt on August 9, 1953, in Humboldt, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children. Ray joined the United States Army in 1955, during this time he was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky and Germany. Ray worked for Monarch Cement company for many years.
Ray was known to many as Poppy. Poppy enjoyed camping with friends, playing cards, and watching KU basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was their number one fan attending numerous activities and events. Poppy was also an animal lover, and was especially fond of his black lab Molly. Since retirement Poppy has enjoyed morning coffee with guys at H&H Grill in Humboldt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leonard Colvin, Wayne Colvin, Herbert Colvin; sisters Emmy Lien, Viola Gifford, Myrtle Lien, Bessie Logan, Rosie Rutledge, Cleo West, Corine Hibbs, Norma Jean Colvin.
Ray is survived by his wife, Joan, of the home; son David Colvin of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter Ann Finley of Chanute, Kansas; four grandchildren, Lance Larson and wife Erin, Lindsey Peter and husband Nathan, Chelse Trollope and husband T.J., Maya Colvin; nine great-grandchildren, Lowen, Lincoln, and Leni Larson, Brecca, Braylee, Brax, Brynna Peter, and Tylee Trollope; sister Louise Edgerle of El Dorado, Kansas; brother Kenneth Colvin and wife Barb, of Boone, Iowa; and sister-in-law Doris Fugitt of Humboldt, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 28, 2019, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Humboldt, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 3:00 - 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 27, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt or Southeast Kansas Down Syndrome Society, and may be left at the funeral home.
